Abstract

President of South Korea, Myung-bak Lee, made a vision statement on low-carbon green growth on August 15, 2008, which was followed by his attendance on G8 HighLevel Talks. According to his statement, green growth is a new growth concept, and can be achieved through the congruence of environment and economy, quality life and green innovation, and international leadership. The following figure represents the basic concept of green growth. The vision statement led to a series of actions taken by central government. Presidential instruction for establishment and management of Green Growth Committee was directed in January, 2009, and the committee was officially launched and held its first meeting in February, 2009. The committee is chaired by the Prime Minister and non-governmental delegates, and also consists of 29 members (see Figure 2). The committee is to deliberate policies concerning green (sustainable) growth.
