This report reviews the impact of Korea’s river basin maintenance and management policies on overall national land development and preservation along with industrial and agricultural development in Korea. Water resource development, which was initiated during the economic development period of 1960-1980 in Korea, pursued environmentally-friendly river maintenance and dam development, which was implemented on the basis of water use and water control. Development of dams brought about economic development and an upgrade in quality of life and national land value. Water resource development policy can be classified according to quality and quantity. In the beginning, the general emphasis was on quantitative development policy, which was intended to solve economic problems. However, after some economic progress, Korea confronted environmental problems such as degradation of water quality by realigning its water resource development policy to improving the quality of water in a more environmentally friendly way.(The rest omitted)
