Abstract

Today, the emergence of the concept of green growth marks the change from a development model that treated environmental protection as an economic burden to a model that recognises environmental protection as a driver for global economic development. As such, the new growth paradigm has emerged with the emphasis on the sustainable development through green economy. In the successful transition to a green economy, trade is viewed as a prevailing vehicle The four case studies include: (1) Creating Wealth from Wastes: Promoting Industrialisation and Creating a Green Business Eco-System Using Oil Palm Biomass The challenge for Malaysian palm oil industry is to effectively utilise the increasing amount of oil palm waste, as the waste and residue from oil mills and processing plants poses threats to the environment. This case study focuses on the development of the high-value downstream linkage, using oil palm biomass. (2) Combating Desertification with the Sustainable Regional Development Model: The Case of Green Asia in Mongolia Desertification in Mongolia has been a growing concern and has been impacted mainly by climate change, overgrazing, mining, and the like; policy factors and socio-economic issues have exacerbated it. The case study examines the Regional Economic Development Model as a plausible means to effectively fight off the impact of desertification. (3) China’s Green Era: Development of the Wind Power Industry Climate change is a major challenge as the rise of the earth’s temperature is impacting the survival of the human race. As China’s growth continues, it is paralleled by increasing energy consumption, but due to limited resources and environmental problems, supply has not kept pace with demand. This case study looks at China’s investment in wind power energy. (4) The Advent of the Water Treatment Industry: The Niche for the Future? Water is an essential source of life on this planet; however, the resource is becoming scarce and impacting the future of humanity and the sustainability of the environment. With these challenges and the increasing problem of water scarcity and access to clean water, technological advances are critical components in addressing these issues as well as that of sustained growth. This case study profiles an agile small enterprise, DH Tech Co., Ltd of Korea. This case provides an example for developing nations, which, in general, suffer from resource constraints, that they can also seize a growth opportunity offered by the rise of the Green Economy. The report introduces the procedure to promote PPP in Korea briefly and analyzes the elements of success by analyzing the cases which are regarded to be successful PPP projects in Korea. In particular, when conflicts take place among the stakeholders while the business is performed, the authors would like to analyze the elements which solved the conflicts and made the project successful. Projects of the partner countries were analyzed and proposals thereon were made in accordance with the valuable lessons learned while Korea introduced and carried out PPP.
